Special Considerations in Pregnancy

Some women/people have more complex pregnancies. Your doctor or midwife will let you know if there are any recommended additional checks like blood pressure or blood sugar monitoring. In the following lessons you will learn about a variety of pregnancy complications that can occur, and how they are managed.

Understand pregnancy over 35
Learn about medical concerns during pregnancy; and how to recognize them and when to seek medical attention
Understand what gestational diabetes is and what causes it
Know what to do if you experience gestational diabetes, vaginal bleeding, placenta previa, high blood pressure, HELLP syndrome, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), Rh factor issues, or breech position
Discover the importance of seeking medical help when needed to keep you and your baby safe

This platform is designed for pregnant individuals, their partners or supports, and perinatal health care professionals in British Columbia.

Our resources are aligned with trusted materials like the Perinatal and Newborn Health HUB, Baby’s Best Chance, and HealthLink BC, and are developed using the best available knowledge at the time of publication. Content is created and reviewed by subject matter experts, an interdisciplinary health care team, and PSBC’s Community Advisory Committee, including parent partners, to ensure accuracy and relevance.
